She Walked Out!

Before I ran my teenager up to school today, I called her into my office to watch the video I posted below. (Sorry, YouTube deleted it off my blog. Click here for the URL.) It depicts a horrific car crash caused by three teenaged girls who were texting while driving.

So she's watching and seems pulled in by the scenes where the girls are laughing and texting some boy one of them likes. I think she can relate. Then the crash happens, and she sees the girls being thrown around in the car as they are hit from all sides. Quite graphic and disturbing. Lots of blood.

She then turns to me with this disgusted look on her face and says, "Why did you want me to watch this??" Then she stomps indignantly out of the room.

I tried to bring it up on the ride to school, and she shut me down. She said she didn't want to think about it. So, that's good, right? The way I look at it, if just 15 seconds of that video sticks with her for a while, maybe, just MAYBE it will make her a more cautious driver.

My parenting style normally doesn't include scare tactics. But in this instance, I think it was necessary.

I'm just trying to keep my teenager alive . . .

Sounds like a typical ten response. I hope the message sticks with her. It was nice to meet you at BlogHer and apologize that it took me so long to find my way over here.

WeaselMomma,

Thanks for visiting my blog. Please refresh my memory, as I met so many great women at BlogHer. When and where did we meet? And what is your for-real name, because I;m sure you're anything but a weasel.
